As we begin planning, it feels like we're going the traditional route default. I hoped to depart from the traditional sit down dinner reception. It seems simply formal. I've seen ideas to fine living, but I do not feel enough time or resources to get help with chase lounges or chairs game up. Someone has even suggested karaoke ... sounds fun, but how do you define that in the room? Basically, what I want is something very conducive to mixing and dancing. I have this nightmare where everyone is just bored at their table. Anyone have any thoughts? All ideas are welcome! And do not know if it helps, but the wedding will be August 08 and in Los Angeles ... the place is a historic house in the old, but the reception is quite the norm in that establishment.
I would have a buffet instead of a sit down dinner. She may end up being a little more expensive, but it will bring people and move. A jazz group is awfully hard to resist when it comes to dancing. Go to some jazz clubs and listening to the tapes if you are one you like, after all, go and talk with them and see if they do weddings. One thing I noticed is that if the bride and bridegroom up and dance after the first dance with some of the wedding party and other guests can get up and dance too. The newlyweds are hosts and hostesses and so without giving you the tone. I do not think karaoke is especially appropriate in a historic house. That's a more formal and I want to go around this and stick to a band or a buffet.
