What type of Fabric is used to make Japanese Kimono's?

I'm making a Japanese Kimono soon and would like to know if there is a type of Fabric that is needed to make a Kimono. I don't want the Kimono fabric that is silky. I was looking more along the lines of a fabric that is durable and more like cotton, but the fabric must be okay to be embroidered on. Something like this:

Those are furisode. A proper furisode is most certainly NOT made of cotton, which is extremely informal. Furisode are among the most formal type of kimono and are only made of silk. Sometimes I see solid-colored, washable furisode made of polyester, but those are rare. Generally speaking, if you want to make an authentic kimono, you want to buy a bolt of actual kimono fabric and make your kimono from that. Most kimono are made of silk. Some are made of other fabrics, like polyester (very modern) or wool. Only yukata are made of cotton. Fabrics like satin or brocade are never used.
